The
question that permeates my work is - where do I end and you begin?
During my M.A. this took the form of investigating the relationship
between the body of the surgeon and the body of the patient during
that period of time when general anaesthesia is being applied to the
body of the patient.
Who is present at the operating table?
This intervention of the surgeon into the body of the patient is a
literal example of a body manipulating and changing the body of another.
The same relationship can also be investigated as a metaphor for the
ways in which each individual continually influences and shapes those
around them; through a series of conversations with surgeon Prof.
David Jenkins a number of questions were formulated that provided
the basis for my M.A. work. These still drive my continuing research.
My field of enquiry includes the topics of consciousness, intimacy,
privacy, embodiment, dialogism, storytelling, healthcare, copyright
and intellectual property. |
